In the middle of the morning fog, the father of a family from Osaka (pictured) stopped me saying that he follows our resort reports regularly. He followed up by telling me that his sons were happy to have received Pokemon-themed lift tickets and that he was very grateful to only have to pay 1,000 for the NSD Kids Program card.

At the top of the resort, heavy snow had been falling continuously since last night. Around 20 to 25cm of light, fresh snow covered over the moderately-packed uneven base below in the ungroomed area along the Kurobishi No. 3 Pair (pictured)! I overheard people commenting that there was more new snow than they had expected, but also that it was hard to see anything because of the thick fog.

The ungroomed areas paralleling the Kurobishi No. 2 Quad and over on Usagidaira (pictured) had around 5 to 10cm of the same light, fluffy snow cover. Near the Alpen Quad it was closer to 15 to 20cm, but the snow surface was somewhat bumpy and uneven. Heading down, the fog finally thinned out around where I merged with the Panorama Course.

This morning, an opening ceremony was held at the boarding point for the gondola before the start of business. Today marked Happo’s “grand opening”, after the pre-opening period that lasted from 11/26 (Fri.) to 12/3 (Fri.). (*The first 150 people in line received an original Happo mask). Looking elsewhere across the country, last weekend a total of 28 ski resorts were open for business, but that number had just about doubled as of today.
