The five lifts shut down due to strong winds, including the gondola, were able to resume operation yesterday at 11:50. Today, it was a perfect morning for skiing and snowboarding with a perfect blue overhead. Temperatures cooled dramatically overnight, dropping to a low of –8℃ at Kurobishi, but once the resort opened for the day, the sun was enough to keep me from feeling cold.

I enjoyed a few quick, fun runs on the moderately packed, groomed snow surface of the Usagidaira Slope (pictured). I noticed some small clumps of snow forming on the steep section at the second half of the run due to the tracks of other skiers, but they didn’t cause any issue and my edges held well. (Plenty of snow still, and no bushes!).

The highlight for me today was the wide-open, well-groomed Kurobishi Slope (pictured). The light, powdery snow surface was moderately firm, and I was able to execute my turns comfortably. The snow was soft in the ungroomed areas along the Kurobishi No. 3 Pair and Alpen Quad lifts, and I was able to attack my line with confidence.

It was similarly great conditions on the groomed Panorama Course (pictured). I had a brief conversation with a snowboarder from Hakuba who told me he always reads our resort reports and, “I came out this morning to get a few runs in before work. Unfortunately because of the strong winds I wasn’t able to board yesterday morning, but the weather and slope conditions today are perfect! I’ve just gotta get in enough runs today to make up for yesterday.”
