The rain from two nights ago tapered off yesterday during the day, and last night saw the return of serious snowfall. Stepping off the gondola, which got started right on time at 8:00 this morning, I could see light, dry snow being whipped around by strong winds. The promising snow quality had me excited, but yesterday’s newly-opened Alpen Quad and Kurobishi No. 2 Quad lifts were unfortunately temporarily suspended.

The Panorama Course was well groomed, but fresh snowfall blown about by the wind formed uneven bumps along the snow surface (pictured). The uneven cover of new snow didn’t really affect my turns, and conditions were actually quite good, allowing me to get in some quick, fun runs. The northern side of the steep slope at the end of Panorama (first photo) had evidently been groomed early in the morning, and as a result, around 3cm of new, light and dry snow had accumulated on the snow surface.

The ungroomed southern side of the Panorama Course (pictured) had around 20cm of fresh snow. Although the surface showed signs of being windswept, the firm base below the new snow was smooth and I was able to enjoy a few runs in fresh power conditions. I checked out the area alongside the Alpen Quad and found around 30cm of new snow.

Later on the snow started to settle and a bit of blue sky and sunshine broke through the clouds. However, the winds began to pick up, and strengthened to the point that it was almost hard to stand up. The winds were strong enough that at around 8:40, the Kokusai 3 Pair, Panorama Pair and Gondola were shut down and all slopes were temporarily closed.
