It felt almost hot around 11:00 a.m. on the Nakiyama Slope with the spring-like sun shining warmly and brightly above. Pre-school and lower elementary-age students could be seen taking ski lessons on the Debut Slope of the Nakiyama Snowland kids park. Incidentally, tomorrow 2/21 (Sun.) is the third Sunday of the month, which means elementary school students can ride the lifts at no charge during the regularly scheduled “Kids Ski Free Day.”

A number of families were having a good time together on sleds in the kids’ sledding area. The convenient dome-enclosed moving belt allows visitors to ride back up to the top of the slope while keeping their skis on, or while simply holding their sleds. (※Children pre-school age and younger must be accompanied by a parent or guardian when inside the Nakiayama Snowland kids park.)

The 51st Annual Happo-One Fire Festival is taking place over a period of three days this year from 2/19 (Fri.) to 2/21 (Mon.). Over at the Nakiayama Mogumogu Hiroba, Tracks Bar (pictured, right) was serving up spicy food from a special fire-festival inspired menu including a Jerk Chicken Burger (700 JPY) and Spicy Pie (700 JPY).

Due to strong winds in the morning only a handful of lifts on the lower portion of the mountain were able to operate. They were: Nakiyama 2 Pair (pictured) and Nakiyama 3 Triple, Shirakaba 1 and 2 Pairs, Sakka 2 Pair and Sakka Kitaone Quad. Because of this the Nakiyama Slope was uncharacteristically crowded and both lifts had a 5 – 7 minute wait to ride.
