Happo-one / ◎290cm / Snowy2021.Feb.16

21021601_happoThe gondola was able to start moving on time this morning, but the strong winds that started blowing last night forced the Happo Riesen Quad and Alpen Quad to suspend operation. There was about 10 to 15cm of fresh snow on top of a flat base in the ungroomed area of Riesen (pictured). The groomed areas had somewhere between 3 and 5cm of new, wet snow covering the moderately compacted surface near the top, with slightly harder granular corn snow towards the middle and bottom of the run.

21021602_happoBy the time I had skied down to the Shirakaba Slope and started to head back up at 8:40a.m., there was about a 10 minute wait to ride the gondola. A family visiting Happo greeted me with the familiar refrain, “We always check your site.” And in a rare reversal of roles I was asked, “Is it ok if we take a picture with you to post on our instagram?

[Usagidaira]

21021603_happoThe Alpen Quad was able to get going around 9:00a.m., and it seemed that most skiers and boarders getting off the lift were heading for the ungroomed area along the lift line, or to the “Sodeguro” area (pictured). The new, wind blown snow around Sodeguro was piled up around 25 to 30cm and had a nice, fluffy feel to it. Those conditions allowed me to enjoy an awesome, nearly bottomless powder run!

[Usagidaira]

21021604_happoThere was roughly 10 to 15cm of new, wet snow covering the well-groomed surface of the Usagidaira slope, and around 5 to 10cm on top of the tightly groomed granular snow surface of the Panorama Course. Around 5cm of fresh snow sat atop the large, hard moguls on the Central Course.
