Happo-one / ◎340cm / Snowy2021.Feb.09
In the lead up to Thursday’s weekday national holiday, Happo has had a record week, recording the coldest temperature of February so far (-10℃) and reaching a snow depth of 340cm – the highest of the season, tying the mark set on 1/11 (Mon.)This morning at the top of the resort a cold wind was blowing, carrying with it light flakes of dry powder snow, while at the same time the sun could be seen occasionally peeking through clouds. The Panorama Course (pictured) sported excellent conditions; groomed soft, powder snow.

In spite of it being a weekday and even with the outstanding emergency declaration covering 10 prefectures, the certainty of a “powder day” lured a handful of people who could be seen lining up for the Alpen Quad (pictured).Due to the effects of the wind, the fresh snowfall covering the Usagidaira Slope ranged from 15cm in some areas up to 30cm in others. The ungroomed sections got a nice reset and conditions were on point.

The Alpen Quad got moving on time today and nearly everyone seemed to be heading for the ungroomed stashes; either along the Alpen Quad, towards “Sodeguro” (on the right side of Usagidaira), or parallel to the Kurobishi No. 3 Pair.I saw a lot of skiers and boarders flying down the mountain with a rooster tail of fresh snow trailing behind them, only to quickly hop back on the lift, head up and set off down the slope again for another untracked powder run.

A customer (pictured) who dropped in on the Omusubi course just after it opened, said that the snow had been heavily affected by the wind with deep drifts in some spots as well as some exposed bare areas in others. He also mentioned that he enjoyed it.With everyone up top hunting powder, the ungroomed sections on the lower half of the mountain and even the Olympic Course II were nearly deserted despite having 15 to 20cm of new snow.
