Happo-one / ◎270cm / Snowy2021.Jan.04

I wondered if the clouds that had lingered across the eastern sky would begin to clear and whether the heavy snows that marked the changing of the New Year had finally come to an end, but then I discovered an unexpected stash of deep powder along the Kurobishi No. 3 Pair (pictured)! There seemed to be around 40cm of fresh, fluffy powder snow on top of the hidden, soft surface below that I was able to thoroughly enjoy!

Visibility was poor from the upper to the middle portion of the resort due to the fog of falling snow, and it was hard to distinguish variations across the snow surface. There was roughly 25 to 30cm of light powder snow along the top of the Sky Line No. 2 Pair (pictured) and the ungroomed area on the eastern side. With the New Year holiday drawn to a close and the return of mellow weekday morning crowds, good fresh lines were findable for quite a long time.

Improved visibility along with 10 to 15cm of fresh, fluffy snow on top of the groomed slope surfaces along the Kurobishi No. 2 Quad and the middle portion of the Sky Line course (pictured) meant smooth, satisfying ski turns on repeat.

A dusting of 3 to 5cm of fine, powdery snow covered the groomed surfaces of the Kitaone traverse “cat track” as well as the Sakka slope. The moguls located along the steep slope of the Kitaone area (pictured) were blanketed in 10 to 15cm of fresh snow. As a side note, we’ve published a Ski Area Report for Happo-One every day since the resort opened, but due to a change in the budget reports will be published 6 days per week, with no reports on Wednesday for the remainder of the season.
