Happo-one / ◎250cm / Snowy2021.Jan.01
Happy New Year! No one expected this amount of snow in spite of some signs of heavy snowfall, including the early snowfall and La Nina. The resort reported “250 cm” of total snow on New Year’s Day, which was the exact same level as that in 2018 when we had a lot of snow.
[Panorama Course]
We had over 30 cm of new snow in front of JR Hakuba Station. I left Panorama Course for the lower Kokusai Slope through Olympic Course I to enjoy superb powder snow. About 50~60 cm of new snow was so soft that I felt like I was floating on Olympic Course I (pictured)!
[Olympic Course I]
Even the lower steep run of Kokusai Slope was blanketed with 50~60 cm of fresh snow (pictured)! The snow was excellent both in quality and quantity. I guess it’s the best snow we had in the lower area in these past few years. Skiers and snowboarders were enjoying slashing, shouting with joy.
[Kokusai Slope]
The soft new snow was about 50 cm and 40 cm deep on Central Course and Shirakaba Slope, respectively. The firm-compacted snow was covered with about 15 cm of fresh snow on both Panorama Course and Shirakaba Slope. The countdown event was canceled last night and only fireworks were set off at midnight.
