Happo One / ◎190cm / Snowy2020.Dec.19
More courses has opened today than yesterday. “Almost all courses (=over 80% of the area)” are now open in Hakuba Hapoo-one Snow Resort! It has opened much earlier than usual. (Opened on Feb. 8, 2020 for 2019-2020 season, on Dec. 29, 2018 for 2018-2019 season, and on Dec. 27, 2017 for 2017-2018 season.

Hakuba gets heavy snow when a low-pressure system that develops in Japan Sea moves east and a cold air mass comes in. It is what happened this year. The resort got more than 50 centimeters of new snow just last night. The powdery snow was so deep (pictured) that I had to ski straight down the slope not to stuck in along Kurobishi No.3 Pair lift.

There was about 10 to 15 centimeters of soft new snow on the groomed snow run along Kurobishi No.2 Quad and of Skyline Course. I enjoyed carving the tracks in the powdery snow. I saw many skiers and snowboarders excited about the non-compacted snow in spite of the thick fog this morning.

All bushes were covered by snow on the steep slope of Kitaone (pictured). “All of the ten ski resorts have opened in HAKUBA VALLEY. Welcome to HAKUBA VALLEY!”, Mr.Takanashi, a representative of HAKUBA VALLEY Promotion Board, who was inspecting the resort, said. I skied down Gezan (descending) Route right to Gondola Station.
