According to the weather forecast, the typical winter pressure pattern is spreading over Japan lightly which has wide isobars from the last night to this morning. It was a bit warm and rainy in front of JR Hakuba Station in this early morning. However, on the upper part of ski areas, there was a good snowfall and the amount of fresh snow was about 15cm (35cm at snowdrifts) at the top station of Kurobishi No.2 Quad and the total amount reaches 20cm deep.

In the upper part of Usagidaira where had the 20-25cm snowfall, even tall bushes are almost covered with snow (Photo). The fresh snow was damp and a little bit heavy. In some parts, the layer of the icy corn snow was under the new snow. The top areas were in light snowing and thick fogs with the soft sunlight sometimes.

Some areas of Riesen Grat are designated as parts of the national park, so the bushes remained as they were without getting cut off and still appeared on the snow (Photo). When I dug the fresh snow on the wooden path in Kamaike Marsh, the inside was frozen, so I couldn’t touch the surface of the path.

To avoid the infections of Coronavirus, the ski area ask their guests to get on lifts with only 1 group per lift basically this season. If the guests need to take the lift with someone of the other group, they are required to make a space between them. Especially, they have to get on the gondola lift with only 1 group at once.
