The weather forecast said the weather would be bad, but it was clear around 7 am. However, the sky was already overcast when I reached Tsugaike Ropeway Sancho Station around 8:30 am. About half of the trees changed colors in Tsugaike Nature Park. I found autumn colors far away over the marsh.

Grasses and shrubs started to turn colors in early September this year. Trees also began turning around September 20 (Sun). The fall colors are getting brighter especially after the Typhoon Dolphin passed on Sep. 25 (Fri). There were a few visitors in the morning because it started to drizzle around 9 am.

I found many Dakekanba trees with white bark because they shed their leaves earlier than usual this year. Ookamenoki (pictured), Nanakamado, and maple leaves were red on my way from Kusu-gawa river to Ukishima Marsh. “I guess the autumn leaves will peak next weekend, around the week of Oct. 3 (Sat)”, Mr. Inomata, a staff of Tsugaike Visitor center, told me.

Tsugaike Visitor Center, which offers free admission, is a great place to have a break or to learn about Tsugaike local environment on a rainy day. For your information, “Tsugaike Nature Park Autumn Leaves Festival”, which was scheduled for Sep. 26 (Sat) – Oct. 4 (Sun), has been canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
