Tsugaike Nature Park / Sunny2018.Oct.13

At 7 AM, despite the clear skies and shining sun, I felt the cold at the foot of mountain. Beautiful autumn colors can be seen from the gondola. The views looking down to the south and at “Umano-se” (horse’s back) are especially impressive.

The autumn leaves of Tsugaike Nature Park are nearly fallen. As the views transition to Erman’s Birch and Evergreen, it feels like late autumn. Many climbers, carrying full backpacks, awaited the first   Tsugaike Ropeway, leaving at 7:30 AM.

Frosted leaves are a sure sign of the first snow (the ridge line of the Tateyama Mountain Range and Hakuba-dake saw snow last Tuesday, 10/2). Please walk with caution, as the frosted wood trail gets slippery. Regardless, the thin ice that reflects the shining morning light at the edge pond is scenic.

Along the walk between Mizubasho Marshland to Ukishima Marshland, I couldn’t help stopping repeatedly to see the beautiful white trunks of Erman’s birch lining the slope of the Northern Japanese Alps. It’s a photographer’s paradise – even though some may only be interested in the tiny waterfalls between the trees.

The park warms quickly; by 9 AM, it reached about 12 ° C. You may even feel drops of sweat form as you walk through the park. By 10 AM, you see many visitors, even though there were only a few in the morning.
