Tsugaike Nature Park / Sunny2018.Jul.03
The end of rainy season came earlier in Kanto Koshin region on Jun. 29 (Fri) than other regions, including Kyushu, Shikoku, Chugoku, Kinki, and Tokai. Afterwards, the temperature has risen and got summer-like in Hakuba Valley. In Tsugaike Nature Park, the remaining snow has thawed rapidly for less than 10 days since the last report on Jun. 22 (Fri) and leaves are getting darker green.

At first half of the trail, although there was much shade, I felt humid because the wind was being prevented. I found a lot of flowers, such as Iwakagami, Shojobakama and Usubasumire, along the trail. When I reached Tenguppara, the wind was blowing, and the cool air was comfortable. The amount of water had increased due to melting snow at the marsh, and there were some Chinguruma flowers were blowing in several places.

The east face of Mt. Hakuba Norikura is still covered with snow. It was slippery even though I used crampons because of the steep slope and as well as the melting surface. Thus, I climbed carefully with small steps. I saw hares and ptarmigans on my way, which made me feel excited.

At 10:20 a.m., one and a half hours after I started climbing, I finally reached the summit of Mt. Hakuba Norikura (altitude: 2,469 m). It was foggy because of wind blowing over the ridge of Mt. Korenge. However, it wasn’t so thick that it didn’t cover my sight and I felt gentle cool breeze.

Turn back the time to the early morning. At Mizubasyo Marsh, I was impressed by Hakuba Sanzan standing against the blue sky, and lush greenery over the marsh. Mizubasho flowers are getting out of bloom. By the way, we’re arriving at the final destination, Hakuba Oike, soon as you go down towards the west from the summit of Mt. Hakuba Norikura. Please see more on Hakuba Oike Trekking Report.
