It was very chilly last night. The temperature was just 3 degrees at the summit station of Tsugaike Ropeway and I found the ice and frost during trekking. The surface of marshes in Tenguppara were covered with 2－3cm ice.

Usually, I met many people in the east face of Mt. Hakuba Norikura, but no one was here in this morning. Almost all leaves had already fallen from the trees around the trail and birches showed the white trunks. The wind blowing was so cold that I could not take off my jacket.

Thanks to the high atmospheric pressure, we had the clear sky. After the pressure pattern changes into that of winter, the skiing and snowboarding season will come. The blue sky, green Siberian pine trees and gray rocks…, the summit area of Mt. Hakuba Norikura showed me its simple colored beauty.

Hakuba Oike Sanso Hut had been closed on Oct. 9 (Sun). Tsugaike Sanso Hut also finished accepting reservations on the last weekend, Oct. 22 (the shop will be open until Oct. 31), so only Happo-ike Sanso Hut is available in Hakuba. In the moutains around Hakuba, Mt. Amakazari Hut will be closed on Nov. 6 (Sun) and Babadani Onsen Hut in Kurobe Valley side across the peaks of Ushiro Tateyama will be open until Nov. 3 (Tue). After the long snowy season, Renge Onsen Lodge on the spring skiing slope.

At last, I met only 8 people during trekking today. I could enjoy the great view of Hakuba Oike Big Pond alone. The wind was still blowing, but it was comfortable to my hot body after climbing. Actually, now is one of the best seasons for mountaineering.
