Tsugaike Nature Park / Sunny2016.Aug.08
A weekend in the high summer season…, many people were climbing down from Hakuba Oike Big Pond. I met students of Mountaineering Club in Tochigi High School. They said that they went to the summit of Mt. Hakuba Yarigatake for 4 days!

The sunlight was strong and it made me hot as soon as I started trekking in this morning. When I looked back in the rocky trail of the east face of Mt. Hakuba Norikura, I could see dim ridges of Togakushi Peaks, Mt. Myoko and Mt. Hiuchi. I took a rest here, enjoy the panoramic view of Tenguppara.

I got to the summit of Mt. Hakuba Norikura around 9:00 a.m. The gentle slope through Siberian Dwarf Pines leads us to Hakuba Oike Big Pond. The blue surface of the lake mirroring the sky and unique clouds showed the high summer had come. We could see Mt. Yukikura and Mt. Asahi across the blue big pond.

The surface was rippling a little bit, but the mirror-like view of the lake reflecting the mountain ridges was so beautiful. In this season, the temperature gets high soon, so the clouds gather from the early morning. We can see the amazing view only in this time. Before 10:00 a.m, the sky got overcast rapidly and the sunlight was blocked off often.

Many tents had been pitched already in the camping area of Hakuba Oike Sanso Hut. This area was very crowded with people taking a rest and I found some of them buying beers at the shop. While Chinguruma put out its heads after blooming, Iwagikyou and Otogirisou made bright and lovely colonies around the pond.
