Tsugaike Nature Park / Sunny2016.Jul.12
Today, we had a fine day ideal for mountaineering. I made a 1-day trek to Hakuba Oike Big Pond. Some trails in the beginning part were slushy and slippy, but the amount of remaining snow was much less than the last year. It was easy to walk in general and the trail that required walking on the snow was only the upper part of the east-face, about 30 meters.

Around 10:30 a.m. when I got to the summit of Mt. Hakuba-norikura-dake (2,469m), the clouds were gathering from the east, but we still could see the blue sky from there. The temperature got higher and higher because of the strong sunlight, so a T-shirt was enough during climbing up.

After a 10-minute-walk from the summit cairn, Hakuba Oike Big Pond showed itself. The great view of the second largest lake in Northern Alps and the surrounding mountains was so amazing. The ice on the lake had melted away already, while much ice and snow was remaining in the last year.

I met many people climbing down on the way to Hakuba Oike Big Pond. Hakuba Oike Sanso that has characteristic red appearance has been open on July 9 (open everyday until Oct. 9). Some people were taking a rest and others were preparing for leaving to Mt. Hakuba-dake.

Hakusanichige and Hakusankozakura passed the peak, but Chinguruma (Photo) and Tateyamarindo made a beautiful colonies around the lake. I could find Hiougiayame, Hakusanshakunage, Watasuge in Tenguppara and Kibananokomanotsume in East-face of Mt. Hakuba-norikura-dake.
