The top part of the boardwalk (pictured) opened on Wednesday, June 24 (Wed), the day after I visited for interviewing. The entire Happo One Nature Trail is now open! We have a lot of Watasuge flowers this year. I saw visitors stopping and taking photos of the colonies of the Watasuge flowers while trekking (pictured).

The boardwalk was easy to walk on because there was no snow, although it was a bit muddy in places after the rain yesterday. About 30~50% of Nikko-kisuge was in bloom at the middle and bottom part of the boardwalk. Miyama-azumagiku and Iwashimotsuke were also in bloom. (About 55 species of alpine plants were blooming at the moment.)

Otakanebara (pictured), Kibanano-komanotsume, and Happo-usuyukiso were in bloom, while Chishimagikyo was in bud on the bare ground around No.3 Cairn. Chinguruma were already past their peak around Happo-ike Pond. I can’t wait to see their colonies along the trail out to Mt. Karamatsu Chojo Sanso in July.

“This is the first time we climb Mt. Karamatsu! The weather forecast said it would be sunny. Too bad it’s cloudy tonight. We’ll go back if it starts to rain.”, three visitors coming from Joetsu City, Niigata Prefecture said. It was cloudy and nicely cool today.
