Hakuba Iwatake / ◎200cm / Snowy2021.Feb.03

The typical winter low air pressure stays over Japan and brings snow to Hakuba. It was hardly blowing a wind in the village, but it was snowing with the strong north-west wind when I got off the gondola lift. Sometimes, our visibility got poor because of the snow blown up by gales.

The groomed slopes of South (Photo) and Gezan Course (First Photo) were nicely firm and covered with 5cm fresh snow and they enabled our skis to run very well. However, the off-piste areas on the sides of the slope had crust under the 10cm fresh snow, so we feel it hard to control our skis there.

East was in really good condition because of the direction of the slope with the nicely firm slope! We could enjoy riding comfortably there on the flat slope covered with 5cm fluffy snow. At around 9:00 a.m, we started to have the soft sunlight as the clouds broke away in the east sky.

The snow changed into corn snow when we skied into Sunny Valley Course. There was also 2-3cm fresh snow on the groomed slope. Paradise was also topped with 2cm fresh snow on the hard corn-snow slope. However, the snow was not very hard, so the edges of my skis worked well still.
