Happy New Year! All the wishes for 2019! Sunrise skiing is available before dawn at Toomi Slope (※everyday until Jan.6, weekends and holidays between Jan.12 and Mar.31). It was sunny on New Year’s Day. The temperature was -10℃ along National Route 148 as of 6 am due to the radiative cooling.

Toomi Slope was well-prepared and nicely firm with powder snow. The edges cut into the snow well and I enjoyed making turns. There was artificial snow on the skier’s left side, however, it was no problem because it was dry and soft.

People gathered around Sky Four Lift Station about 10 minutes before the first sunrise of the year. Everyone cheered when the sun rose just at 7 am and the sky turned red. Toomi Slope got filled with ski tracks, however, it was still nice even after that.

Lift at Iimori Slope started operation at 8 am. Lots of tracks were left on Powder Snow Course, which was nicely firm and compacted. Soft Cream Course was hard with firm artificial snow. Clouds got overcast in the western sky around 8:30 am.
