The rain that had been falling overnight ceased around 8:00 this morning, replaced by refreshing blue skies. With similarly-warm temperatures as yesterday, a modest sea of clouds was hovering over the basin to the east (pictured). The granular-snow surface of the ungroomed Itadaira Course was moderately soft and relatively flat, making for good skiing conditions.

The groomed Hiedayama Rinkan Course (pictured), Ikenota Slope and Ipponmatsu Course featured soft-snow surfaces with high moisture contents. My edges cut deep into the slope with each turn, but my ski still slid well. The popular Ikenota Slope was churned up early on, leading to crunchy snow across the surface.

The Kids Play Park is scheduled to remain open until the ski resort’s last day of the season – 4/3 (Sun.)! One popular activity that provides thrills and enjoyment to both children and adults is snow rafting (¥1,500 per person). I spoke with one of the staff members who informed me, “We will stay open as long as course conditions hold up. We hope to see many people come out!”

I also had a chat with the mother of siblings enjoying some sledding, who told me, “We spent 2 nights here at the Hotel Green Plaza Hakuba, and today we’re heading home. Yesterday we spent time at the Kids Play Park and even rode on a snowcat.” Conditions in the groomed Kids Play Park also consisted of loose, crunchy snow, perfect for pain-free falls.
