The morning sunlight created comfortable conditions for being out on the slopes today. I ran into two snowboarders from Chiba (pictured), who told me, “We usually head to Yuzawa, but we came to Cortina for the first time on a bus tour. We’re staying overnight at the Hotel Green Plaza Hakuba, and will snowboard again tomorrow.” The Ikenota Slope (pictured) will be the site of a First Tracks Experience to be held on 3/13 (Sun.) for hotel guests only.

Conditions were similar on the Ipponmatsu Course and Ikenota Slope, with both featuring well-packed powder-snow surfaces that were great for comfortable and controlled turns. The slopes were quiet starting off as well, which gave me the opportunity to focus on getting warmed up properly. Both courses had started to soften up a little bit just before 10:00.

The Hiedayama Rinkan Course (pictured) had similarly-firm, groomed powder-snow conditions first thing this morning. Clear skies made for great views of Mt. Takasuma, Mt. Myoko, Mt. Hiuchi and more to the northeast. I noticed a number of people getting off the No. 4 Pair Lift and heading over to the Hiedayama One Course.

The Itadaira Course (pictured), which sits in direct sunlight during the morning hours, quickly began to clump and soften up. It was there that I ran into a married couple from Mie Prefecture (pictured), who greeted me saying, “We always check your reports! We come out to Hakuba several times per year, and this time we came out yesterday to spend 2 nights in Cortina. We’re enjoying snowboarding and taking videos of each other.”
