Cortina / ○395cm / Partly Sunny2022.Mar.01

22030101_cortinaThe blue sky that was visible early this morning gradually gave way to cloud cover moving in from the southwest. With temperatures already warming up as the lifts got started, I went ahead and removed my mid-layer before hitting the slopes. Today, the top of the Waribidaira Slope (pictured) was groomed to the width of around 2 grooming machines.

22030102_cortinaThe groomed Ikenota Slope (pictured) and Ipponmatsu Course both featured a nice and firm, wet-snow surface. The sun moved in and out of the clouds, alternating between sun and shade, but the temperature rose steadily throughout the morning. By around 9:30 the surfaces of Ikenota, Ipponmatsu and Waribidaira (1st photo) had become softer and noticeably damper.

22030103_cortinaThe groomed area to the skier’s right side of the Itadaira Course extended the width of roughly 3 grooming machines. The wet snow composing the surface of the Hiedayama Rinkan Course (pictured) was pressed more firmly and maintained its good condition longer than other areas lower down on the mountain.

22030104_cortinaAn instructor from the Cortina Ski School (pictured, right), who was skiing on her day off, greeted me saying, “I always check your reports! This is a friend of mine from high school who also attended the same university as me. She came all the way from Kyoto to catch up and ski with me.” Even as the day went on and the snow surface began to soften up, my skis still slid well and I found the conditions to be comfortable.
