“We often go for skiing in Gifu but we’ve never come to Hakuba before. It’s late March but the quality of snow is great! We’re having a great time.”, a couple coming from Osaka said. It was not really chilly last night and it was warm from the early morning today.
[Ipponmatsu Course]
Granular snow was firm on the hard compacted Ipponmatsu Course (as shown in the first photo) and my skis ran smoothly. Meanwhile, the surface of Ikenota Slope (in the photo) was getting melted when the lifts started operation. However, my ski edges cut into the snow well as the lower layer was nicely firm.

Fine, dry, granular snow and wet snow was mixed and compacted at Hiedayama Rinkan Course, and I enjoyed going down on the soft course. About 1-2 cm of top layer was getting melted, while the lower layer was firm at the compacted Itadaira Course (shown in the photo). My ski edges worked well and I enjoyed making turns.
[Itadaira Course]
Hiedayama Course 3 (shown in the photo) and Ikenota Rinkan Course are now “mostly (more than 50%) available” again. Hiedayama Course 3 was difficult to ski down because of the ups and downs covered with the melting granular snow. “I enjoy your reports! Well, it was really hard. I wish I could have come during the best season.”, a man from Osaka said with a smile. “I’m exhausted…but it was really fun.”, his son said.
