It was rainy from Monday (Aug.19) to Friday (Aug. 23), affected by the autumn rain front, although it’s only been about a month since the rainy season ended on Jul. 29 (Mon). The sky was blue with the sun shining into the lift this morning, however, the strong northerly wind was too cold to stay without jacket.

The temperature was over ten degrees and I enjoyed walking in the cool breeze. Happo One Nature Trail was crowded with climbers and hikers from the early morning. It was easy to keep my pace at Boardwalk, which is gentler than Climbing Course.

My eyes were caught by alpine plants, especially round buds and white petals of Umebachiso (shown in the photo). Tamuraso, Hakusan Shajin, Miyama Akino Kirinso, Waremoko, Iwashobu, Takane Matsumushiso were in bloom as well. I also found pretty flowers of Yamahahako, Miyama Kogomegusa and Shimotsukeso along Boardwalk.

The wind got harder as I finished climbing the steep slope from Happo Cairn. Clouds were fleeting fast, the surface of Happo-ike Pond was rippled, and the sea of clouds looked like rough sea to the east. Many climbers headed for Mt. Karamatsu in the morning after taking a short break at No.3 Cairn or Happo-ike Pond.

Visitors from Tokyo were taking a commemorative photo with Happo-ike Pond in the background. I found lots of Miyama Uikyo on the slope which connects the route leading to No.3 Cairn and Happo-ike Pond.
