I parked my car in front of Cafeteria Kurobishi and started to climb up at 4:00 a.m. Only 3 weeks had passed since the summer solstice, so the dawn began at early time and the morning sun shone in the blue sky around 4:30 a.m. After that, the fogs had broken up and we could see mountains of Hakuba, Mt. Goryu-dake and Mt. Kashimayarigatake clearly.

I met other people who were mountaineering even in such an early morning. The last winter had less snow than usual, but the snow was remaining in Ougi-no-setsuden and cooled me down with a comfortable breeze. We also could see a great sea of the clouds.

On the way to Mt. Karamatsu-dake, only this area before Maruyama Cairn had the remaining snow. The red ocher showed us the route, but we could also climb up through the usual way without snow by making a detour.

There were many alpine flowers along the trails after Maruyama Cairn. Especially, I found yellow flowers, such as Miyamakinbai and Miyamadaikonsou. It was blowing a strong wind on the ridge, so I needed a thin jacket.

When I got to the summit of Mt. Karamatsu-dake, the grand views of Tateyama Mountain Range, Northern Alps, Sea of Japan and even Mt. Fuji welcomed me! The two girls said they climbed up in the rain yesterday. Fortunately, we had a fine day today!
