The owner of the Misorano area steak restaurant ‘NIKU-masa‘ was out on the slopes of Tsugaike this morning, explaining to us that the Hakuba Yamatoya sports store was offering free demos of their “Light Telemark” skis and he was taking advantage of the opportunity to give them a test ride. the Light Telemark skis were developed by the president of Hakuba Yamatoya, Mr. Matsuzawa, to provide superior comfort and unrestricted movement.

It was a beautiful morning with soft sunlight and wispy clouds. The beginner’s slope running parallel to the Han-no-ki High Speed Pair Lift was well groomed, with moderately packed damp snow conditions. The mid to bottom portions of the groomed Han-no-ki Slope seemed to be slightly harder than the upper areas.

Conditions on the Shirakaba Slope were the same as those of the lower half of Han-no-ki; groomed, slightly harder packed damp snow. As of 9:30 a.m., the granular snow across the surfaces of the Oya-no-hara (pictured) and Karamatsu Slopes was beginning to soften up. Beginners and families with small children seemed to be enjoying their time on the expansive, gentle groomed slope.
