Two TG PARKS diggers toiling in the snow to prepare the park (pictured) informed us that work to clear all of the newly fallen snow was taking longer than expected and that the opening of the park, usually 9:00 a.m., would be delayed. And in fact, the park was finally able to open around 10:00 a.m.

One of the resort’s newly-added live cameras for the current season is trained on a snowfall gauge. Looking at a time-lapse video shot of the gauge and its surroundings, it was clear that the upper portion of Tsugaike received new snowfall of over 70cm (!) in the last 24 hours. In fact, the ungroomed section in the middle of the Han-no-ki slope (pictured) was covered in between 50 to 60cm of fluffy, fresh snow. This new snow on top of an already soft base provided an outstanding feeling of floating freely down the slope.

The groomed areas of the resort featured enjoyably soft powder snow conditions. Roughly 3cm of new snow lay atop the groomed surface of the course paralleling the Han-no-ki High Speed Pair lift, while the middle to lower portions of the Han-no-ki slope had between 5 to 10cm of fresh snow. The Maruyama slope also had around 3cm. A couple of skiers from Aichi (4th photo) kindly let us know that they always check our site.

The same two skiers exclaimed that they were very excited to have such wonderful, snowy conditions for their first visit to Tsugaike this winter. They mentioned that the Chuo Expressway and national highway were free of snow until just before Omachi, and even then, while there was snow on the road – the flow of traffic was smooth.
On another note, though the resort’s official homepage lists the Kane-no-naru-oka No. 2 slope as being “closed”, there is a wide groomed path that cuts through the area and connects to the Maruyama No. 1 Quad lift.
