A snowboarder who comes snowboarding to Hakuba every week said, “I live in the west part of Shizuoka Pref. and it takes 5 hours by car. I left my home in the last night and the snow started to fall when I got to Lake Kizaki.” In this morning, the gondola was suspended the operation in the upper part, so I went to Shirakaba Quad.

The slope of Shirakaba was groomed well and nicely firm. There was about 20cm fresh snow on the slope and I could enjoy soft feeling during skiing. However, the snow in the lower part was a little damp.

After that, I got on Champion Quad lift which was open at 8:50 a.m. Now, the number of visitors from Australia was much less than in February and students started to ski at after 9:30 a.m. slowly, so there is not a lot of competition for powdery snow in March.

The amount of fresh snow was 20－25cm in the ungroomed area of Champion. The slope was a little bumpy and damp and the fresh snow on the run was also slightly heavy, but it was still soft enough. By the way, the groomed area covered with 20cm fresh snow was good to ski with high speed. On Mar. 4 (Sat) tomorrow, Tsugaike Ropeway will start the spring operation!!
