Tsugaike Kogen / ◎160cm / Snowy2017.Jan.12
An ideal winter atmospheric pattern has come over Japan and brings good heavy snow with gentle wind. Umanose Course was open as soon as Tsuga No.2 Pair started the operation at 8:40 a.m. Experts rushed into the fresh snow one after another under the gloomy sky covered with thick snow clouds.
[Umanose Course]
The somewhat steep beginning part of Umanose was groomed and covered with 15cm fresh snow. After enjoying easy skiing, the steepest slop (32° at the maximum) appeared in front of me. There was over 50cm powdery snow on the big bumps and we could feel like floating on the wave!
[Umanose Course]
The flat slope from the lower Umanose to Shirakaba had a 15-20cm snowfall and in easy condition. Today, the totally 2,400-meter long course from Umanose (1,500m) to Shirakaba (900m) was the best and I wished I could ski there again and again if I had a enough time.
[Umanose Course]
To my surprise, the lower areas such as Champion, Shirakaba, Maruyama, Kane-no-naru-oka No.2 and Oya-no-hara were very quiet. It was because today was a weekday in January and most of people climbed up to the upper parts to seek powdery snow. At 9:30 a.m, 20-centimeter snow was on the gentle slope of Oya-no-hara already.
