Shiga Kogen / ◎110cm / Cloudy & Sunny 2021.Dec.23
It’s been chilly and snowy these days. Most (= more than 80%) of the courses have finally opened in Shiga Kogen just before Christmas Eve! (※Giant and Hasuike Courses are still closed.) I went far away to Okushiga Kogen Ski Area today on Dec.23 (Thu). The temperature dropped to 10 degrees below zero early in the morning, and trees in the middle and top area were coated in rime ice.

Almost of all courses were well-prepared, blanketed with firm granular snow from top to bottom. I had fun skiing down the iconic 2.2km-long Downhill Course (pictured) again and again, taking Gondola. The gentle Hillside Course was empty probably because the snow was ungroomed in the top area.

It was cloudy early in the morning but it started to clear up around 9:30 am (pictured in the second photo). “We arrived the day before yesterday, and we’ve been enjoying skiing for the last two days. I think Shiga is often crowded with skiers looking for snow of high quality. This is a kind of our graduation trip because we’re graduating this spring.”, students coming from Nagoya city, Aichi said (pictured).

No.2 Expert Course is the steep slope with an inclination of 30 degrees at maximum (pictured). I enjoyed gaining speed on the groomed snow. The lower No.1 Slope is the very gentle slope with an inclination of 9 degrees at maximum and 6 degrees on average. The slope was crowded with beginners and families enjoying skiing and snowboarding slowly.
