With only 3 weeks remaining on the season, the walls of snow at the resort base are still plenty impressive! When riding the snow escalator inside the Pokemon Snow Adventure area, the walls reach up to the height of an adult’s chest, and must seem huge from a child’s vantage point. This morning the weather had cleared, and it felt almost hot standing in direct sunlight.

I talked with a father (pictured) visiting from Nagano’s Kawakami Village, who told me, “We came out today just to play here in the Pokemon Snow Adventure area. This is the first time I’ve ever been to a ski resort and haven’t skied.” The well-maintained tubing course featured a moderately-soft wet-snow surface. The father seemed to be enjoying himself just as much as his child.

Conditions were similar on the 1-A Course, 1-B Course and Maruyama Slope (pictured) with moderately-packed, groomed wet-snow surfaces. I was able to set and maintain edge control and make smooth and controlled turns. Work was underway on the bottom half of the 1-C Course as well as the Maruyama Bypass, in preparation for the Kashimayari Cross Festival taking place beginning on 3/11 (Fri.).

Skiing conditions were excellent on 5-A, with a firmly-groomed wet-snow surface that had a feeling similar to powder snow. In addition, the ungroomed areas to the sides of the course were covered in 20 to 25cm of fresh, fluffy powder (pictured). I noticed people dropping into the ungroomed 5-C early this morning, but I enjoyed some relaxing runs on the beautiful, groomed snow surface of 5-A.
