“Iwatake Kanshasai (Thanks Festival) started at 10 am. “Hakuba Shio-no-michi Taiko” gave an excellent performance in the opening ceremony, making a thundering sound of Japanese drums. Many people gathered around the booth as foods and drinks, including Hakuba-Nishiki, beer, nibbles, soft drinks, Oshiruko (sweet red bean soup), Garigarikun (ice popsicle), started to be served.

Nanban-Ebi (Shrimp) Soup was popular at Itoigawa Food Fair. Grilled seafood was served again this year and the smell from barbecue stove made me hungry. Genboku Shiitake (Shiitake mushroom; 100 yen) was popular along with Akaebi (whiskered velvet shrimp; 200 yen), Hatahata (sandfish; 100 yen), Hokke (Atka mackerel; 400 yen).

Pouding mochi (rice cake) event was held twice and visitors were enjoying pouning. The mochi was broken into one-bite sized pieces and served. Some people were eating as it was and some were putting it in Oshiruko. A raffle draw was held at a corner of the booth and there were about 1,000 prizes prepared, including skis of OGASAKA and season tickets for the next season.

Pork miso soup in caudlron prepeared for 2,000 people was served earlier than originally scheduled. It was very popular and there was always a long waiting line for the hot soup. “We’ve come just for Iwatake Kanshasai today! Pork miso soup makes us warm and very nice.”, a group of people coming from Nagano City and Azumino City said.
