Hakuba Iwatake / △60cm / Snowy2018.Dec.28
The cold wave left a present for us at Iwatake, about 20-25 cm of snow at the upper area and 30 cm of snow at the lower area. It was chilly at the top with the temperature at -8.1℃.
Rime spread all around there, suggesting that there was a strong wind last night.

The compacted East Slope was firm and nice with about 10 cm of light fresh snow above that. I also enjoyed a floating feeling on about 25 cm of soft powder snow, which covered non-compacted area at the side of the slope. “I’m glad that I got up early today. The snow is amazing!”, a holder of a season ticket coming from Matsumoto City said.

I saw two snowboarders, one from Shizuoka and another from Tokyo, at the entrance of VIEW D, which opened today. “We’ve just come down VIEW C. We’ll go to VIEW D next because there was not much fresh snow.”, they said. VIEW D was compacted by Pisten, which was as wide as one compacting machine. There was about 50 cm fresh snow from last night above the untouched snow at the middle non-compacted area and I enjoyed the knee-deep powder snow there.
[VIEW D]
About 10 cm of fresh snow lied on North Slope, which was nicely flat with powder snow. Snow started to fall heavily around 8:30 and it was just snowing silently without wind around 9:30. I expect the course will be wider tomorrow or sometime later, considering the weather forecast.
