“The 45th Student Ski Competition IWATAKE” will finally start this afternoon. However, only opening ceremony and captain-meeting are being held today. Competition will start tomorrow, Feb.14 (Wed). Members of skiing club at Shizuoka University gave me the watchword, “We always enjoy your reports!”

In the Student Competition, “Village Mayor’s Cup Ski Competition & Male Alpen Division Preliminary”, “Demo Skiing Division”, and “Alpine Skiing Division” are going to be held between Feb.14 (Wed) – Feb.16 (Fri), Feb.25 (Sun) – Mar. 2 (Fri), and Mar.11(Sun) – Mar.17 (Sat), respectively. There was about 5cm of new snow at Kamoshika Racing Course, which was well-groomed and nicely soft.

It was not as chilly as yesterday morning. However, I felt freezing at the upper area of the Snow Field because of the weak northerly wind blowing with snow. South Slope and Gezan Course were also well-groomed and comfortably soft. I enjoyed riding in the 10 cm of new snow.

There was 20cm of new snow on the soft slope of White Ribbon Course, which was non-groomed and had ups and downs. As people made turns, clouds of snow blew up at their foot. They looked happy, saying “Great!”, “Amazing!”
