Happo-One / ◎110cm / Snowy2021.Dec.28

21122801_happoWith the Olympic II and Central courses as well as the bottom of the Kokusai Slope opening yesterday morning, and the Olympic I Course opening today, the only courses that remain closed are Kitaone 3, the northern aspect of Nakiyama and “Nakikabe”. This morning as I arrived at the resort I heard the announcement that the gondola was temporarly suspended due to strong winds, and headed over to the Sakka Kitaone Quad.

21122802_happo I was curious about conditions on the steep slope on Kitaone (pictured, first photo), and despite opening only one day ago, the heavy snows over the last few days seemed to have completely buried any exposed bushes, and I enjoyed some runs in light, fluffy pow! It was the same story on the Olympic Course II (pictured). The Kokusai 1 Pair Lift began operating at 8:29, and not long after I heard the sound of cheers rising up along with fresh spray.

21122803_happoThe southern portion of the Sakka Slope (pictured) was very well maintained, and sliding conditions were excellent with a moderately-packed, powder surface. Even after 10:00, the winds at the top of the resort had not died down, and only 5 lift were operational: the Shirakaba No.1 Pair, Nakiyama No. 3 Triple, Sakka No. 2 Pair, Sakka Kitaone Quad, and Kokusai No. 1 Pair

21122804_happoThe For Tune Wax & Edge Station located on the basement floor of the gondola base station, offers hot waxing using Hayashi Wax (pictured, starting at JPY2,000). Hot waxing is done in a 60 degree heat box, to increase the penetration of the wax on the ski or board base. This results in a more effective, longer lasting wax.
