Happo-One / △125cm / Sunny2021.Apr.26

21042601_happoSnow is melting quickly across the country, and a number of resorts that were scheduled to remain open until 5/5 (Wed., holiday) – such as Akakura Kanko Resort and Seki Onsen – were forced to close on 4/18 (Sun.), while others such as Nekoma, Grandeco and Takasu shut down for the season yesterday. At Happo however, 6 slopes remained skiable again today. With that said, the snow cover is now noticeably thinning on the lower portions of the Panorama (pictured) and Skyline courses.
[Panorama Course]
21042602_happoThe snow at the bottom of Panorama currently looks like this. The point that joins the steep portion of the slope (pictured, background) is groomed only to the width of a single grooming machine. Yet along the groomed area stretching all the way from the Usagidaira Terrace to the bottom of the Panorama Pair there were no patches of exposed earth or bushes to worry about. First thing this morning the snow surface from the top to middle section of the slope was moderately soft, while the end portion was slushy corn snow.

21042603_happoThe surface snow on the groomed route through Usagidaira was moderately soft and seemingly still abundant, thanks to the accumulation of artificial snow made throughout the season. The wide and flat area along the Kurobishi No. 2 Quad (pictured) was characterized by hard, granular snow. The surface layer had just begun to loosen up when I skied the area, which made for excellent edge control and smooth skiing.

21042604_happoThe snow surface on the top portion of the Skyline Course (pictured) was moderately soft, with the softness extending deeper into the snowpack further down the run. The snow cover at the bottom of Skyline is relatively thin and the skiable area is now pretty narrow, but the resort has done a great job of keeping the course well maintained.
