The early morning weather saw light snowfall accompanied by thick fog smothering the slopes from the Usagidaira area up to the top of the resort. The firm, groomed granular snow surface of Usagidaira was dusted with a layer of 1 to 2 cm of new snow. The snow conditions made for smooth sliding, but poor visibility limited speed. Conditions were similar on the Panorama Course, yet slightly harder than Usagidaira.

The Kurobishi area featured very similar conditions as well.I was able to take advantage of a few short periods of thinning fog to occasionally gain some speed. Over at Skyline visibility improved, and there too I found a groomed hard, granular snow surface. The ungroomed areas at the edges of the slope were icy in parts.

I met a pair of skiers who took the day off to hit the slopes and told me, “We often check the Snownavi site. This is our 4th time this season to make it to Hakuba. Yesterday we hit Hakuba47, and after Happo today we’ll head back home.”In other news, the 75th Annual Riesen Slalom Competition will be held on 3/4 (Thurs.) and 3/5 (Fri.) on the Riesen Slalom Course.Because of that the area will be closed to general ski traffic, but alternative routes down to the base will be prepared.
