Following yesterday afternoon’s opening of the Riesen Grat Course, today saw the Nakiyama No. 2 Pair, the Shirakaba No. 1 Pair and the Kitaone No. 3 Pair lifts begin operation as well as a number of slopes including Nakiyama’s northern slope and “Nakikabe”and the Kitaone No. 3 slope, as well as the new course in the Kitaone area. The first two skiers in line to ski Riesen (pictured) greeted us with a cheerful “good morning” and told us they regularly check Snownavi’s ski area reports.

Just as the forecast had promised, another 35 to 40cm of fresh, fluffy snow fell overnight, covering the Kurobishi slope! The top of the resort was quite cold with driving snow, but the feeling and excitement of fresh powder was enough to get past the tough weather conditions. The cheers of powder-lovers rose through the air along with the spray following behind them.

The roughly 30cm of fresh snow covering the un-groomed Skyline course also made for some memorable turns. Another skier from Hamamatsu city in Shizuoka prefecture (pictured) who came ripping down the slope with a high-arching spray trailing behind him let us know that he too regularly checks our site. In fact, we’d like to thank all those who went out of their way to ski up to and greet us.
[Skyline Course]
The condition of the groomed portions of the Kurobishi, Skyline and Kitaone areas were excellent, with tightly packed powder. Cruising down to the harder packed slopes of Shirakaba with their dusting of 2 to 3cm of fresh snow on top, the calm weather conditions at the bottom made the extreme cold and poor visibility at the top of the resort seem like a distant memory.
