Happy New Year! The first morning of 2020 was sunny but cold at both mountain top and foot because of the radiative cooling. I saw the first sunrise over the eastern mountain ridge at 7:20 a.m. The sun made the air warm.

The rime on trees looked great against the blue sky in the upper area. “Happy New Year! We enjoy your reports!”, six skiers and snowboarders from various parts of Japan said. Thank you all for the New Year wishes this morning.

I enjoyed carving on the firmly groomed snow along Kurobishi Quad. “The snow is awesome!”, three snowboarders coming from Tokyo said. The slope was crowded from the early morning and people were waiting 1~3 mins in line at Kurobishi Quad station.

The snow was kept blown by the strong wind in the upper area. Usagidaira Slope was groomed except for the lower part along Alpen Quad. The top part was hard, while the middle part was nicely firm. The slope was a bit rough but nice around 9 a.m. (in photo.)
