The weather cleared up without wind and it was a great day for skiing & snowboarding today. It was hard to believe that there was a strong wind at the upper area yesterday. Ushiro-Tateyama Renpo and the slope turned red at sunshine in the early morning as it is called morgenrot. It was cold with the temperature at -13℃ at the foot because of the radiative cooling but the air was pretty nice.

“We enjoy your report”, members of “SnowPara”, a skiing society in Kansai said. Fresh snow was untouched at the non-compacted area of Usagidaira, Kurobishi and Riesen as the lifts were suspended all day yeterday. It was packed by wind and partially filled with ripple marks.

The groomed area of Usagidaira, Kurobishi (in the photo) and Skyline was nicely firm and I enjoyed gaining speed. On the other hand, the non-compacted area was difficult to go down. I found the lower area was firm but great as I went down Kitaone No.3 Slope to the bottom.

People arrived early because it was a Asaicihi (Early Morning) Riesen day. I saw skiers & snowboarders going to Urakuro Off-Piste area, which was non-groomed and difficult, one after another. By the way, Kitaone Kogen Terrace at the top right of the picture has reopened after renovation this winter. “Kitaone Dining”, an Italian restaurant, is newly open in addition to “Kitaone Cafe”.
