The HAKUBA VALLEY was relatively warm this morning as a low-pressure system along the southern coast ushered in warm air from the south to areas across the Japanese archipelago. Early in the morning, the first half of the Highway Course (pictured) was marked by clumps of hardened snow that loosened during the day before refreezing overnight. It was difficult at times to maintain an edge because of the hardened, uneven snow.

However, on the latter half of the Highway Course where the slope switches to a north-facing direction (pictured), the hardness and consistency of the snow improved considerably. It was here that Hakuba Norikura Ski School instructors were warming up and showing off some impressive turns before their lessons.

Conditions were equally good on Hakunori’s beginner “Hakunori Family Course”, as it too is located on a north-facing slope. After the morning clouds dissipated and the sunshine began broke through around 9:20 a.m., conditions on eastern and southern-facing slopes improved as the hard packed surfaces began to loosen up.

”We always check your site!”, said a family from Osaka that we encountered in the lobby. The Hakuba Alps Hotel, which directly manages the ski resort, is offering a 20% discount across the board on accommodation plans during the GoTo Travel campaign suspension period from 12/28 (Mon.) to 1/11 (Mon.). In addition, for residents of Nagano prefecture, a maximum subsidy of 5,000 yen can also be applied to room rates through the “Nagano Prefecture Family Accommodation Discount” program.
