Small snowflakes started to fall from dawn. The temperature was seven degrees below zero, however, I didn’t feel so chilly because the wind was blowing gently. Route 5 and 6 was covered with fresh snow hiding the tracks of grooming and I could use my ski edges well and turn as I imagined.

It was late to start to snow, so the amount of fresh snow was only 3 cm even at the upper part of the ski area. The upper part of Route 1 was also flat and in good condition with powder snow. I was fascinated by the teacher of Hakuba47 Snowboard School who was making the sharp turns utilizing whole of the course.

The wind got bit stronger at the upper part of Route 1, which is at the ridge. My fingers got numb with the cold when I stopped and held the camera. The skier’s left of the steep slope leading to Route 6 was not groomed. There were many tracks and the snow was a little bit heavy, so it was difficult to make the turns.

Four people from Tokushima gave me the watchword, “We always enjoy your reports!”. It took 8 hours for them to get here this morning. They are going to stay three days and enjoy skiing and snowboarding. According to the weather forecast, the coming cold wave is going to hit Western Japan, too. When you visit Hakuba or go back home this weekend, please be careful.
