The first day of the three-day weekend was blessed with good weather. It was comfortable because it was not so chilly without wind. A junior event (competition and lesson) was held as a part of ‘JAPAN FREERIDE OPEN 2018‘ today. Skiers, snowboarders and staff members joining in the competition were doing warming-up exercise at the base area, where the lifts were prepared for working.

There were a long line of visitors and the riders & staffs of the event waiting for working of No.1 and No.2 Lift. Ikenota Slope was widely groomed and nicely firm. It was good for warming-up as edges worked well and skis ran smoothly.

Junior Category, which has introduced this year, is the first trial among free-ride competition in Japan. The category is further divided into 4 subcategories, U18 (12 to 18 years-old) & U12 (8 to 12 years-old) for skiing, and U18 & U12 for snowboarding. Skiers and snowboarders joining the U18 category seemed enthusiasm after finishing inspection of a course.

Lessons by providors were going to be held in the morning, however, they were replaced with competition because the forecast said it would be rainy afternoon. At 10:30 a.m. skiers and snowboarders were listening to the explanation of the line, judgement carefully, preparing for the finals.
