Tsugaike Nature Park / Partly Cloudy2021.Oct.10

21101005_tsugaikePlenty of beautiful autumn colors, particularly the vibrant yellow leaves of the ‘dakekanba’ (Erman’s Birch trees), remain along the mountainside between Mt. Korenge and Mt. Hakuba Norikura (pictured), and plenty of people could be seen stopping and pointing their cameras and phones in that direction for photos. With that said, the fall season is drawing to a close throughout most of the Tsugaike Nature Park, and many trees throughout the park are quickly losing their leaves.

21101002_tsugaikeNear the small observation deck between the ‘Kusakawa’ river and the Ukishima marsh, the contrasting hues of the yellow ‘dakekanba’, red ‘nanakamado’ (Japanese Rowan), green ‘kumazasa’ (bamboo grass) and blue sky was spectacular (pictured). Visitors could be heard exclaiming their delight at the sight as they passed by.

21101003_tsugaikeLater on a fog descended across the area, stretching from the Mizubasho Marsh to the Ukishima Marsh and Mousen Pond. Along the ‘Yase-one’ ridge, the colors seem to have moved past their peak, with leaves falling from the trees. Yet, there were still some autumn colors remaining, with pockets of reds and yellows that looked great against the backdrop of the sea of clouds (pictured).

21101004_tsugaikeThe park was bustling with visitors, perhaps because of those hoping to catch the fall colors, or because it was a Sunday, and ordinarily a three-day weekend. Despite the earlier fog, around 9:40 a.m. blue skies returned to the Mizubasho Marsh area (pictured). As the season progresses, the fall colors are moving down the mountain, and currently the colors of the Tsuganomori area at the base of the ropeway station are now nearing their peak.
