Tsugaike Nature Park / Sunny2021.Oct.03
Standing amidst the vast expanse of nature often leads to the feeling of awe; the deep sensation of one’s own existence, and smallness. Studies have shown over and over that this experience of awe awakens activity in the brain. The Tsugaike Nature Park dyed in brilliant fall colors is one of those rare and wonderful places that can easily trigger such a feeling.
[Tsugaike Nature Park, Watasuge Marsh]
This beautiful, sunny Sunday just after the expiration of the various countrywide emergency declarations perfectly matched the peak timing for the autumn leaves, making it the ideal day to be out. As such, the number of visitors was far higher than last weekend, and the ropeway was ferrying customers back and forth continuously from 8:20 a.m. From a small lookout point that accommodates only a few people, I took in the impressive views (pictured) spreading out below me.
[Tsugaike Nature Park, ‘Kusakawa’ River – Ukishima Marsh]
After enjoying the colorful scenery from the Mizubasho Marsh, Watasuge Marsh (first picture) and the area between the ‘Kusukawa’ River and Ukishima Observation Deck (second picture), I arrived at the real highlight: the Ukishima Marsh. The beauty of the painted ridge and mountainside running from Mt. Korenge to Mt. Hakuba Norikura (pictured) looked like a work of art. Here and there I could hear the sounds of visitors exclaiming their delight at the magnificent sight.
[Tsugaike Nature Park, Ukishima Marsh]
The standard photo spot (pictured) in the Ukishima Marsh area was very popular with visiting photographers. The trunks and branches of the “Dakekanba” (Erman’s Birch) that had already lost their leaves stood out as a nice white accent against the colorful canvas. It should be noted that the morning was quite cold, but later in the day the warm, strong sunlight pushed the temperature high enough to break into a sweat. (*To be continued tomorrow…).
