The end of rainy season was announced in Kanto Koshin Region on Jul.29 (Mon). It was a bit foggy in Tsugaike Nature Park but I departed for Hakuba Oike. The sky was blue by the time I reached the eastern slope of Mt. Hakuba Norikura around 9 a.m. About 50 meter – rocky area was still covered with snow, however, it was trodden hard and I enjoyed trekking without crampons.

I hurried to the top of Mt. Hakuba Norikura as the clouds were rising in the sky around 10 a.m. Luckily, I saw a ptarmigans crossing the trail on my way. Many people soon started to take photos and it was like a photo session. “It’s amazing! It’s worth coming all the way here”, people were talking with each other.

Unfortunately, I couldn’t get a fine view of Mt. Hakuba at Hakuba Oike because of the clouds. The sun beat down upon my head through the clouds. I passed many people walking along the ridge from Mt. Hakuba even though it was a week day.

I found many flowers of Iwaicho and Akamono in the forest between the entrance and Tengubara, and Hakusan Furo and Shinano Kinbai (in the first photo) on my way from Tengubara to the top of Mt. Hakuba Norikura. I also saw some colonies of Chishima Gikyo and Chinguruma, which are major summer alpine flowers, around Hakuba Oike.

It was not really windy but the clouds were fleeting fast and it repeated being clear and cloudy. Hakuba Oike looked fantastic today, sometimes being clear blue and sometimes being dark green.
