Tsugaike Nature Park / Sunny2017.Jun.22

17062201_tsugaikeIt was cloudy in the mountain foot area, but the blue sky spread out in the upper part over the summit station of Ropeway. Today, we climbed up to Hakuba Oike Big Pond to see the thawing of the snow on the pond. In Tenguppara, the wooden paths were already exposed and the melted snow water made a small stream.

17062202_tsugaikeThe east face of Mt. Hakuba Norikura is still covered with the snow. It took about 25 minutes to climb up this slope. It is very steep and slippy because there were almost no trails, so we needed crampons.

17062203_tsugaikeWhen I got to the ridge, I found there was no snow and the dry rocky trail leads to Hakuba Oike Sanso Hut. I met a mountaineer who said he would climb up to Shirouma Sanso Hut near the cairn of the summit. It was blowing a breeze and it cooled me down comfortably.

17062204_tsugaikeThe sunlight got stronger gradually as time passed and I got to Hakuba Oike Big Pond at around 11:00 a.m. At Hakuba Oike Sanso Hut, staffs were making the hut ready to start the operation on July 8 (Sat). (Continue to Mountain Report)

17062205_tsugaike60-70% of the trail to Hakuba Oike Big Pond were still under the snow and especially, it was difficult to find the trail from Tsugaike Nature Park to Tenguppara sometimes. When you go climbing there, you should check the trail fully and avoid climbing with only beginners.
