Ontake 2240 / ◎160cm / Snowy2021.Jan.22
“Are you a reporter of Snownavi who makes a reports of ski areas in Hakuba?”, a husband (Middle on photo) of a couple from Otaki Village asked to me and talked, “We are very lucky to meet you here! I have moved from Osaka 2 years ago and been skiing in Ontake2240 almost everyday. Today, my daughter (Left on photo) come together from Hiroshima.”

The rain which was falling during I drove on National Route 19 changed into wet snow on the way to the ski area (The base area is at an elevation of 1,780m). On the top area at an elevation of 2,240m, the dry snow was falling! Mikasa Wing (Photo) was in good condition with shallow bumps which were nicely firm and 3cm fresh snow topped on the slope.

The off-piste slope of Expert Course had also 3cm fresh snow. There were nicely firm deep bumps on the skier’s right side and also nicely firm “undulation” on the skier’s left side. I saw expert riders making smooth turns at high speed there.

The groomed slopes of Central Course (Photo) and Paradise Area were nicely soft, covered with 1-3cm fluffy snow and in very nice condition. In Karamatsu Avenue (First Photo) and 4B, my skis didn’t run well on those groomed slopes. Although it got warmer today, the snow condition was very nice due to the high elevation of Ontake2240.
