The snow blew sideways on the strong northerly wind around 11am. “We enjoy your reports! We’ve been staying here since the start of the season in December. We’ll win the National Student Iwatake Skiing Competition!”, members of Zermatt Skiing Club at Waseda University said.
[Rabbit Course]
Fresh snow lied about 10 cm deep on Rabbit Course and 15 cm deep at Wakaguri Chuo Slope where it was less windy than the upper area. Granular snow was compacted and nicely firm both at Rabbit and Wakaguri Chuo. My edges cut into the snow well and I enjoyed skiing down in the light fresh snow.
[Wakaguri Chuo Slope]
The wind was blowing hard at the upper area too. There was about 20 cm of a snowdrift at the deepest point on the skier’s left side. Meanwhile, the hard compacted snow was covered with soft fresh snow on the skier’s right side. The snow brought together by edges was soft, while the snow shaved by edges was hard.
[Highway Course]
The wind was blowing much harder at the lower area of Highway Course as it faces north. It was really cold and my face and hands had gone numb. The fresh snow was not blown away anymore and I heard the sound of edges when I was going down the hard slope.
