Cortina / △145cm / Rainy2020.Mar.22
It was sunny and warm yesterday like spring as it’s already late March. Hakuba Cortina is temporarily open thanks to the heavy snowfall from March 18 (Wed) till 19 (Thu). However, the snow has been melting rapidly since then. There was already not much snow in Ikenota Slope when I visited yesterday afternoon. What is worse, we had heavy rain this morning.

Sleet was sometimes falling in the middle and top areas. I saw three visitors from Kanagawa and Aichi. “We’re having fun, although it’s rainy. Look! This sleet is really big!”, they said and showed me the big sleet on the gloves.

My skis ran smoothly in the wet, compacted snow in Hiedayama Rinkan Course. The granular snow was getting loose and nice, although there were some large bumps in Hieda Ⅰ. The compacted snow area was as wide as a pisten in Ikenota Slope. My skis weren’t affected, although the snow layer was partially thin in the middle area.

No.4 Pair Lifts were suspended around 9:45 a.m. due to the lightning. The non-compacted snow was rough (pictured back) and some bushes and ground were exposed in Itadaira Course. “This is his first time snowboarding so I’m giving him a lesson. I saw only a few people because it’s rainy. It’s like we have the entire slope for us.”, a snowboarder said.
